What Junk Haulers Can't Take in Los Angeles, and Where It Goes
Paint, oil and batteries can't go in a junk truck or a dumpster. Most go to a free city drop-off site called a S.A.F.E. center. Here's where to take each one in Los Angeles.

S.A.F.E. centers in the Valley
LA Sanitation runs free S.A.F.E. drop-off centers for household paint, oil, batteries and chemicals. Two are right here in the Valley:
- North Valley: 10241 N. Balboa Blvd.
- East Valley: 11025 Randall St.
There's a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. Hours change and rain can close them, so check the LA Sanitation flyer or call 1-800-773-2489 before you go. Outside the City of LA, check with your own city or LA County.
Taking hazardous items to a S.A.F.E. center
- Check under sinks, in the garage and in the shed for anything hazardous.
- Keep products in their original containers with the lids on, and never mix them.
- Keep them in your trunk, away from your belongings, for the drive.
- Stay in your car at the center. Drop-off is drive-through.
- Bring your home address. They'll ask for it.
We haul everything else
Once the hazardous items are out, our crew carries out the rest and hauls it away. Every load goes to a licensed disposal facility. Text a photo for a free estimate.
Driveway Safe is licensed and insured, and it's owned and run by David Steven in Lake Balboa. Call or text 818-231-3056 any hour, and tell us what you're working on.
